Suspect dead and two state troopers injured in shooting incident in upstate New York.
A recent shooting incident in upstate New York has left one suspect dead and two state troopers wounded. The confrontation unfolded on Thursday morning in the Town of Malta, shortly after 9 a.m., as officers from the New York State Police and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a domestic dispute at an apartment complex.
Authorities identified the suspect as 37-year-old Brandon R. Moore. Upon arrival, law enforcement attempted to engage with Moore, who barricaded himself inside the apartment. During the negotiation process, approximately 30 minutes into the standoff, Moore exited the building allegedly brandishing what appeared to be a handgun. Police officials stated that Moore refused to comply with orders to drop the weapon and aimed it at the officers, prompting them to return fire, resulting in Moore sustaining fatal injuries.
Investigators later revealed that the firearm in question was, in fact, a CO2-powered BB pistol, which was loaded at the time of the confrontation. Two state troopers involved in the incident sustained minor injuries but have since been released from medical care. The individual who initially triggered the call for police assistance also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Prior to the shooting, the property manager of the Ellsworth Commons Apartments, where the incident occurred, communicated with residents via email, advising them to shelter in place due to the ongoing police activity on the fourth floor of Building 2. Officials confirmed that the shooting was an isolated incident that posed no broader threat to public safety.
Notably, this tragic occurrence marks the second incident involving state troopers in Malta within the span of 24 hours. On Wednesday, a suspect, identified as 59-year-old David Levine, was fatally shot by law enforcement after he opened fire on a troopers’ substation in the same municipality. Levine had been located in the parking lot and was armed with a long gun. After failing to heed multiple commands to drop his weapon and aiming it at the officers, they responded with deadly force.
Malta, which lies approximately 30 miles north of Albany, has seen heightened police activity in recent days. Community members can take some comfort in the assurances from officials that these incidents have been isolated and that efforts are being made to ensure public safety in the area.
