Thousands flock to Egg Harbor for Spirit Halloween opening featuring animatronics and costumes.
The highly anticipated grand opening of Spirit Halloween’s flagship store in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, attracted a throng of Halloween enthusiasts on Saturday, celebrating the early onset of the spooky season. Spirit Halloween, renowned for its expansive selection of costumes, animatronics, and Halloween decorations, unveiled a spacious 20,000-square-foot facility, which has become a focal point for seasonal shoppers.
While pre-registration for the opening event was limited to 2,000 individuals, company representatives estimated that an additional 1,000 guests arrived for general admission. The scene was lively, with attendees ranging from toddlers to adults, many adorned in various Halloween costumes, including clowns, grim reapers, and witches. By 9 a.m., lines had formed that snaked around the Harbor Square Mall, despite the day’s warm temperatures.
Guests indulged in a variety of entertainment options, including food trucks, music, face painting, and outdoor games. Among those present were Cesar and Adrianna Balmaceda, who stood by the entrance with their son, eleven-year-old Cesar, excitedly awaiting the day’s festivities. The Balmaceda family, local residents of Atlantic City, shared their experience of waiting in line and noted how recent changes in Spirit’s policies have made attendance more manageable. This year, camping out was prohibited, allowing families like theirs to obtain tickets easily, which they secured through a helpful Facebook community member.
As the store opened its doors promptly at 10 a.m., customers were welcomed in small, organized groups, thus preventing chaos. One highlight among the offerings was the life-size Freddy Fazbear animatronic, available exclusively in stores, which sold out within minutes. Outside, eager attendees anxiously awaited updates on stock availability as employees announced that the coveted animatronic had been claimed by a family from Canada.
Additionally, several other popular animatronics were reported sold out within hours, including figures from iconic horror franchises such as Friday the 13th and Halloween. To maintain order, the store enforced a limit allowing only one animatronic purchase per person, ensuring that the distribution was fair among customers. Notably, a team of 19 employees managed the bustling crowd, wearing themed apparel reflective of the store’s 2026 campaign.
Spirit Halloween, which operates more than 1,500 locations across the U.S. and Canada during the Halloween season, is headquartered in Egg Harbor. This flagship store serves a dual purpose, functioning as a retail space during peak season while also being utilized for research and development during the offseason.
As anticipation builds for the Halloween season, it remains clear that Spirit Halloween not only meets consumer demands but creates a vibrant communal experience that celebrates the holiday spirit. With reports of enthusiastic attendees traveling from as far as California to participate in this momentous event, Spirit Halloween’s flagship store has solidified its status as a key destination for Halloween fans.
