Two additional men charged in connection with Grays Ferry mass shooting.

Two men were charged on Friday in connection with a mass shooting that occurred last month in Grays Ferry, claiming the lives of three individuals and injuring ten others. This incident marks a significant escalation in gun violence in the region, and officials anticipate that additional arrests may follow as investigations continue. Law enforcement authorities are pursuing potential charges against at least a dozen individuals involved in the shooting.

Jihad Gray, 35, was apprehended at his South Philadelphia residence on Thursday morning. Authorities allege that Gray discharged multiple rounds on the 1500 block of South Etting Street during a block party on July 7. He faces serious charges including three counts of murder, attempted murder, causing catastrophe, and several related offenses due to his suspected involvement in the incident. In a search of Gray’s home, police reportedly discovered a substantial cache of drugs and firearms, including an assault rifle and a shotgun, amplifying the severity of the charges against him.

Additionally, Dieve Drumgoole has also been arrested and charged with three counts of murder and associated offenses. Drumgoole’s connection to the case is particularly notable as he is the father of one of the victims. After the shooting, Drumgoole allegedly discarded the weapon into the Schuylkill River, later claiming it had been stolen when confronted by authorities during the investigation.

Authorities have indicated that Gray and Drumgoole are not alone in facing legal repercussions for their roles in this tragic event. Earlier in the month, two other suspects, Daquan Brown, 21, and Terrell Frazier, 22, were taken into custody. Additionally, police are actively pursuing a fifth suspect, Christopher Battle, who remains at large. Preliminary investigations revealed that at least 13 individuals discharged weapons during the incident, with ballistic evidence further supporting the need for ongoing investigations.

On the night of the shooting, more than 100 attendees were present at the block party. Initial reports indicated that 12 individuals, aged 15 to 27, were shot. However, an additional victim, a 15-year-old girl, was later identified, raising the total to 13 affected by gunfire. Among the deceased were Zahir Wylie, 23, who suffered a fatal chest wound, Jason Reese, 19, who was shot in the head, and Azir Harris, 27, who was struck in the back. Harris notably had previously been paralyzed from a prior shooting incident.

Police initially thought the block party had been deliberately targeted, but subsequent witness interviews and video evidence led investigators to change their assessment. It appears that the initial shot may have been fired indiscriminately, prompting a chaotic response from several party attendees who drew their firearms and unleashed a barrage of over 120 rounds into the surrounding area.

As the investigation progresses, officials remain focused on curbing the rising tide of gun violence in the region and bringing all responsible parties to justice. The community is left grappling with the aftermath of this tragic shooting, as efforts to enhance public safety become increasingly urgent.
