Yorba Linda council establishes security, infrastructure, and additional goals in recent meeting.

Yorba Linda city officials have established a timeline for achieving 29 strategic objectives by the end of this year, as part of a comprehensive three-year plan recently approved by the City Council. This initiative encompasses various key areas, categorizing the objectives into six principal themes: community engagement, economic vitality, financial stability, infrastructure investment, public safety, and quality of life. Additionally, the proposal outlines 11 objectives targeted for completion in the early months of 2027.

The objectives are designed to address both major and minor goals within the community. Notable initiatives include the implementation of security recommendations for city facilities, based on assessments conducted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Funding for these enhancements is earmarked in the budgets for the next two fiscal years and is marked as an ongoing priority under the public safety category. Conversely, other objectives, such as adjustments to the pickleball court reservation system at Las Palomas Park, are aimed at improving recreational facilities and enhancing community engagement, with a completion target of December 15.

In terms of public safety, the strategic plan outlines several key objectives, including conducting e-bike enforcement on city trails, delivering educational programs on e-bike safety at local middle schools by September 30, providing active shooter response training at the library by November 3, and supporting the Orange County Fire Authority in the replacement of Fire Station 10.

Infrastructure investment goals focus on exploring strategies to manage the rising costs associated with maintaining city streets, completing Savi Ranch widening right-of-way acquisition, and assessing at-risk storm drains by year-end. Financial stability objectives involve council workshops to address pension and retiree health benefit liabilities, with a comprehensive budgeting proposal for the 2027-29 fiscal years also planned by December 31.

Economic vitality initiatives aim to develop a long-range plan for capital investment at the city-owned Black Gold Golf Club by December 1 and to evaluate options for revitalizing Main Street before the end of the year. Community engagement strategies include reviewing the regulations surrounding temporary commercial and campaign signs, with recommendations expected by December 15, as well as transitioning city commission meetings to a paperless format, currently underway.

Looking ahead to next year, additional objectives will include conducting a community satisfaction survey as part of the proposed budget for 2027-29, moving toward paperless council meetings, reimagining the Savi Ranch area to bolster its economic viability, and developing an artificial intelligence pilot program for plan checks. Enhancements to the annual weed abatement process are also anticipated to ensure completion before the summer season, along with measures to address compliance among properties within the city.

These strategic objectives reflect the proactive approach of Yorba Linda city officials to ensure the continued vitality and safety of the community as they navigate the challenges of urban growth and development.
