Suspect Arrested in Shooting of Georgia Police Captain

A man accused of shooting a police captain in Georgia has been apprehended, according to law enforcement officials. Timothy Ramsey, 26, was taken into custody on Saturday evening after a manhunt was launched following an incident that occurred late Friday night.

The shooting involved McCaysville Police Captain Brantley Worley, who responded to a report concerning a suspicious person. Upon arrival, Worley was shot in the head by Ramsey, who subsequently fled the scene. The incident took place around 11 p.m. in McCaysville, approximately 85 miles north of Atlanta, close to the Tennessee border. Authorities confirmed that Ramsey was arrested around 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) expressed gratitude to all law enforcement agencies that contributed to the swift capture of Ramsey, acknowledging the community’s support throughout the process. The GBI utilized its social media platform to inform the public of the collaboration among local, state, and federal agencies that made the arrest possible.

Captain Worley sustained serious injuries from the gunfire, including a broken neck and a brain bleed. As of Saturday evening, he was reported to be in critical condition. McCaysville Police Chief Michael Earley highlighted Worley’s dedication to the community, urging residents to keep the officer, his family, and the department in their thoughts during this challenging time.

In response to the shooting, authorities activated a “Blue Alert” in the region, which is designed to notify the public about incidents involving law enforcement officers who have been harmed. This alert system was established through legislation enacted in 2013, aimed at enhancing public awareness during such emergencies.

The incident has garnered significant attention as it raises issues surrounding law enforcement safety and community engagement. As investigations continue and authorities work to ensure the safety of both officers and the public, the recovery of Captain Worley remains a central focus of local law enforcement agencies. The community stands in solidarity as they navigate the aftermath of this violent event.
