Driver injured in Bergen County after NJ Transit train collides with vehicle.

A woman was hospitalized following a collision between her vehicle and a New Jersey Transit train near the Ramsey station in Bergen County early Friday morning, according to officials. The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. at the Main Street crossing, as reported by a New Jersey Transit spokesperson.

At the time of the accident, the northbound train was out of service and being repositioned from Hoboken to Suffern along the Main-Bergen County line. Fortunately, there were no passengers on board the train, and no crew members sustained injuries during the event.

The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been disclosed, was the sole occupant of the car. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of shoulder pain, with her condition remaining unclear as of Friday afternoon. After the incident, the damaged vehicle was towed from the scene.

Despite the collision, NJ Transit confirmed that service on the Main-Bergen County Line was not significantly impacted. However, the incident did lead to the cancellation of two trains and caused delays of up to 55 minutes in both directions during the busy morning commute, as indicated by the line’s real-time update account on social media.

Aerial footage captured by a CBS News helicopter revealed extensive damage to the front and rear of the car involved in the collision, while the train appeared to be largely unscathed.

The New Jersey Transit police department is currently leading the investigation into the incident, working to gather more details surrounding the circumstances of the crash.

Ramsey, located approximately 25 miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan, is a suburban community that regularly experiences rail traffic as part of its transportation infrastructure. The local authorities are urging drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution near railway crossings to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As investigations continue, updates regarding the condition of the driver and further findings from the authorities are expected to be released.
