Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman to perform at the Met Philadelphia.
Katie Crutchfield, known musically as Waxahatchee, and MJ Lenderman, an emerging force in the indie Americana music scene, are set to embark on an anticipated tour, which will include a performance at the Met Philadelphia on April 18. Both artists have been making significant waves in the music industry, with Crutchfield’s recent album, “Tiger’s Blood,” receiving widespread acclaim and recognition as one of the standout records of 2024.
Crutchfield’s “Tiger’s Blood” showcases Lenderman’s contributions, as the North Carolina-based songwriter played an integral role in the production of the album. Lenderman’s own solo effort, “Manning Fireworks,” has also garnered significant praise, appearing on numerous year-end best-of lists alongside Crutchfield’s work. This noteworthy collaboration between the two artists exemplifies their growing partnership and shared artistic vision.
Crutchfield has a rich history in the music scene, having originally resided in West Philadelphia for much of the 2010s after moving from Brooklyn. She, along with her identical twin sister, Allison, gained early recognition as part of the band P.S. Eliot, which they created during their formative years in Birmingham, Alabama. More recently, the Crutchfield sisters surprised fans with a new album released under the name Snocaps, featuring Lenderman alongside producer and multi-instrumentalist Brad Cook. While Snocaps will be touring with performances scheduled for major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, Philadelphia will not be included in that lineup.
The upcoming concert at the Met promises to be a captivating experience for fans, as it will feature both artists performing solo sets, alongside collaborative performances. Audience members can expect to hear favorites like “Right Back To It” from “Tiger’s Blood,” in addition to tracks from the Snocaps project, which marks a stylistic return for Crutchfield to a more rock-oriented sound.
In a notable moment that captured significant attention earlier this month, Crutchfield performed a cover of Taylor Swift’s “The Life Of A Showgirl” during a charity event in Kansas City, where she currently resides with her partner Kevin Morby. Lenderman also made headlines recently by inviting local political figure Zohran Mamdani to join him onstage during a performance at Brooklyn Steel, further highlighting the intersection of culture and community that both artists embrace.
In a philanthropic effort, the duo has partnered with PLUS1.org, committing to donate from every ticket sold for their Met Philadelphia show to support nonprofit organizations that focus on improving access to nutritious food and housing resources within the community. Tickets for this highly anticipated event will be available for purchase starting Friday, November 21, at 10 a.m. through the official Waxahatchee website. This collaboration not only represents a significant moment in their musical careers but also underscores their commitment to giving back to the community.
