Severe weather struck San Antonio early Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals and leaving several others unaccounted for. The San Antonio Fire Department reported that torrential rains and flash flooding overwhelmed the area, leading to more than seven inches of precipitation falling within a five-hour period. This deluge transformed roadways into rushing rivers, sweeping away over a dozen vehicles and trapping residents in dangerous conditions.
Emergency response teams received distress calls starting around 5 a.m., as reports emerged of people clinging to trees and isolated on small dry land masses formed by the flooding. Eyewitness accounts and multimedia coverage revealed a scene of devastation, with numerous vehicles submerged or overturned in floodwaters, prompting immediate search and rescue efforts.
San Antonio Fire Chief Valerie Frausto confirmed that four bodies were recovered from the floodwaters, while an additional ten individuals were rescued. Four of those rescued sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. However, the search teams continued their efforts, with as many as five people still reportedly missing as of Thursday afternoon.
