A 24-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with a double shooting that occurred in Queens, New York, on December 11, 2025. The incident resulted in the death of Oliver Nava, a 27-year-old father of two, prompting a swift response from law enforcement officials. The suspect, identified as Bryant Figueroa, was taken into custody after being recognized by members of the NYPD’s Quality of Life Division in the Jackson Heights area.
On the evening of the shooting, Nava and another individual were outside a bodega located on 108th Street near Waldron Street in Corona when Figueroa allegedly opened fire around 8:35 p.m. Reports indicate that Nava was struck in the chest and succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to Jamaica Hospital. The second victim, a 28-year-old man, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg but has since survived the ordeal. However, he reportedly did not cooperate fully with police during the investigation.
Figueroa was brought to the 110th Precinct where he faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon. According to the police, this marks Figueroa’s first arrest in New York City. He resides in Elmhurst, a neighborhood situated approximately two miles from where Nava lived. In contrast, Nava had a lengthy criminal record featuring over 30 arrests, including a prior charge for gun possession.
The circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear, although investigators have indicated that the two men were acquaintances. Law enforcement has not disclosed what may have triggered the altercation.
